How To Break My Heart And Mend It

Let me tell you a short story...

Molly, a client of mine, called me last year for a phone consultation.

She was literally unable to sing in auditions due to fear, lack of confidence and just not believing she was good enough... Before I continue, meet the lovely Molly - she is a professional dancer, singer and actress...

So, when Molly called me she was wracked with self-doubt and lack of confidence in herself. As a result, she had even developed serious physical vocal fatigue, tension and voice loss issues that she was seeing a speech therapist for.

And the worst part is... she hadn't sung in over a year... :o(

When I hear this from a client (and believe me I hear it OFTEN), it breaks my heart... It is devastating.

The feeling of not believing in yourself, wondering if you actually have what it takes and comparing yourself to others constantly, not to mention the regular rejection, financial strains and crippling self-judgement can take its toll... and it often ends in just stopping singing altogether, just like Molly did...

Well, she had finally had enough and after our consultation, she took the plunge and began working with me on my 1-2-1 coaching program.

She wasn't without her reservations tho...

 She had her concerns...

“Will this work? Will this work for ME? Do I have what it takes? It's an investment..."

 But...

 She was over it...

She knew there was something more than this...

She wanted things to be better so badly...

There was a spark inside of her that KNEW she had something to offer the world through her singing... and she was determined to find it, ignite it and let it shine.

And those doubts, concerns and hesitations were not enough to stop her from fulfilling her dream, claiming her future and stepping into the spotlight...

 BUT...

... she had tried almost everything else; singing teacher after singing teacher, meditation, visualisation, breathing techniques, speech therapist... THE LOT.

And now it was time to do something different. Something radical. Something special. Something... weird, strange and new...

... yeah, working with me! I assured her I would hold her hand every step of the way and guide her through the powerful process. And that's what we did...

To get to the point, within just 2-4 weeks:

  • her speech therapist discharged her with all vocal issues fixed - the therapist was stunned and wanted to know what had changed

  • she fell back in love with singing - the tears of joy in those first few sessions still make me well up with emotion

  • she was back auditioning and actually feeling good about it

Within 6-8 weeks:

  • she realised that singing WAS her passion and purpose and that this is what she wanted with all her heart. The fire and joy were back.

  • she was getting recalled in auditions, getting positive feedback from the casting panel, and actually loving the experience!

  • she was actually able to say out loud "I'm a singer and I believe in myself"

Molly went on to get cast in The Sound of Music as one of the nuns and in the ensemble with a really good singing part.

And today, I received this text from her (this story is shared with Molly's 100% permission and blessing, as she wants to help others too).
